Planning Permission

Your local planning authority is responsible for deciding whether a development should go ahead – anything from an extension on a house to a new block of flats or a shopping centre.

The local planning authority usually means the district or borough council and the planning system is needed to control development in your area.

Many internal alterations to your home do not need planning permission, but if you are extending your accommodation you should always check with your builder. An architect or surveyor should also be able to advise you alternatively, you should contact the planning department at your local authority.
